2013 Awards Presentation Evening

On 14th July, the Club held it's Annual Awards Evening to celebrate the achievements of our gymnasts over the past year.  A buffet supper was followed by the presentation of the awards, which covered a range og categories including Progress Awards for each squad, the Gymnasts Gymnast (awarded by the gymnasts to one of their own), the Special Recognition Award and finally the Base, Top and Gymnast of the Year.
There was also a surprise presentation to the Club from Simon and Lyn Richards, who handed over a cheque for 500 following their epic 13 day trek along the Grand Union Canal to raise money for the Club - thank you so much!  Entertainment was provided by the gymnasts themselves who gave short presentations, talks and poems about an aspect of their gymnastics experiences.  These iterludes were a real highlight of the night, proving amusing, though provoking, uplifting and emotional,, drawing loud applause from the appreciative audience.  The evening culminated in the presentation of the Gymnast of the Year trophy, which was awarded to Sophie Newell for her great dedication, determination and amazing progress over the last 12 months.  Well Done Sophie!

Two Silver and a Bronze at the British Championships!

The 2013 Acrobatic Gymnastics British Championships was held at Fenton Manor on 13 and 14 April, with 4 partnerships taking part over the course of the weekend. All of the gymnasts were competing in new partnerships and/or at a higher level of competition than previously, so it was a hugely significant weekend for everyone and not just because it is the biggest event in theUK calendar. By Sunday evening, we had won 2 Silver medals and a Bronze, a fantastic achievement. The full results were:

  • Senior Women's Groups: Silver Medal - Bex, Sophie and Siobhan.

  • Junior (13-19) Women's Groups: Silver Medal - Gabby, Cossi and Nina.

  • Junior (12-18) Womens Pairs: Bronze Medal - ‘Becca and Sophie.

Our 11-16 Age Group Trio of Emily, Freya and Grace, just missed out on a place in the finals, but did themselves proud and gained valuable experience for the future.
